Education for Sustainable Development helps children understand the connections between people, communities and the natural world. It gives them the knowledge, skills and values to explore real challenges, consider different perspectives and make responsible choices.
At LIS, ESD is not an occasional project or separate subject. It is a purposeful approach to learning that helps children connect classroom knowledge with the world around them.

How ESD Learning happens at LIS
Every ESD unit guides children through a purposeful learning journey—from developing a global understanding, to investigating within their own community, and finally taking meaningful action.

Understand the World
Children explore a global issue or Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), ask questions and consider different experiences and perspectives.

Investigate Locally
Children examine how the issue connects to Koh Samui, their community or the school, gathering information and identifying genuine needs.

Take Meaningful Action
Children collaborate to develop a thoughtful response—creating, campaigning, improving a system or encouraging change within our local or school community.
A Global Framework for Meaningful Learning
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals provide meaningful contexts through which children explore global challenges, investigate local connections and consider how positive change can happen.
